I have been sewing since the age of 5 starting with crafts such as patchwork, and by the time I was 11 I was making clothes for myself. Leaving home at the age of 16 I trained as a ladies’ bespoke tailoress at London College of Fashion, moving on to Berman’s & Nathan’s Costume House where I deepened my skills and knowledge. I also hold a degree in Costume Interpretation from Wimbledon School of Art.
In 1984 I began working in film & television on productions including Spitting Image, Alas Smith & Jones, McCallum, The Mummy and Star Wars IV.
Since 1991 I have specialised in freelance work in the worlds of theatre, ballet, opera and installation art.
I established Jackie Hallatt Ltd in 2002 and now work from my own studio in Newcastle upon Tyne.
